My Doctoral Dissertation & Defense

The theoretical frameworks that guided my doctoral research—andragogy, Schlossberg’s Transition Theory, Tinto’s Theory of Student Departure, and Astin’s Theory of Student Involvement—provide valuable insights applicable across diverse contexts. These frameworks provide a strong foundation for understanding adult development, motivation, engagement, and retention—principles that are equally critical in corporate learning and development.

The competencies I developed through this research translate directly into the design and implementation of effective corporate training programs. Including this work in my portfolio highlights not only the depth of my academic experience, but also how evidence-based, adult-focused learning strategies can drive meaningful development in professional environments.

My Work Experience

I’m a Learning & Development professional passionate about creating engaging, results-driven learning experiences. With a background in instructional technology, virtual training, and performance improvement, I specialize in identifying skill gaps and designing learning solutions that align with business goals and empower people to perform at their best.

At ISC2, I lead learning initiatives that improve efficiency and team performance—most notably developing a CX training strategy that reduced internal escalations by 73% within 90 days. I also manage and maintain all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the Professional Development department, ensuring clarity and consistency across processes while continuously refining training through data-driven insights and usability testing.

Previously at Keeley Companies, I designed and implemented tailored learning programs across six business units, partnered with HR and leadership to align development initiatives with organizational goals, and integrated emerging technologies to modernize the learning experience. With a Doctorate in Instructional Leadership and an MBA, I combine strategic insight with creative design to build impactful, scalable learning programs that help organizations—and their people—thrive.

The Story Behind the Work

My passion for learning began early—I was the kid who never wanted to miss school, even when I was sick. That enthusiasm carried into my post-secondary academic journey, where I earned an undergraduate degree in business followed by an MBA. While completing my MBA, I was also working full time in a role that allowed me to support learning and development initiatives. It was during this time that I discovered how much I enjoyed helping others grow in their careers.

This passion inspired me to pursue a Doctorate in Education with a focus on adult learning and instructional leadership. I continued working full time in Learning & Development while earning my doctorate, which provided invaluable hands-on experience and strengthened my ability to design impactful learning experiences. I was also honored to receive the Alvin M. Francis Award for Educational Leadership in recognition of my academic work.

Outside of my professional life, I’m a dog mom through and through. I enjoy spending as much time as I can on adventures with my pups—an Australian Shepherd and a Border Collie—while also teaching them new things along the way. They’re quick learners, often trying to outsmart me which keeps life interesting.
